Hello world, we made it! This is the last chapter of the
fourth semester. It’s fucking hard to believe I’m halfway through my Chinese studies
but hey... Time stops for no man. Tomorrow evening, I’ll hop on metro and by 10pm my ass leaves Shanghai. In two
days, I’m gonna be back in my
hometown which means no blog for the next two months. But... If you’re in Europe and you’re a part of my inner or even outer circle,
there’s a good chance, we’ll catch up in person... Holla!
Last week was pretty cool. I spent most of evenings with my
Lithuanian peers just talking, drinking, watching movies, hanging out.... I met
with my biking partner several times too. On Thursday, we went to check another
Shanghai Literature Review event at this beerhouse at Yuyuan Road. This one was
really good. Focused on LGBT issues, several people shared their stories on the
topic throughout the evening. And man... Listening to people coming in terms
with being gay in China is powerful. The strongest moment was a Chinese dad
accompanied by his gay son, sharing his struggle after finding out, detailing
the whole path from thinking his son is some sorta freak all the way to
complete embracement and acceptance. No sugarcoating, the realest shit. The son
translated for him and you could just feel the love and authenticity. Sometimes
the prejudice and homophobia built in our societies cause so much unnecessary
pain... Just keep your fucking minds and hearts open... Or don't... And vote for Trump or some shit... What a time to be alive...
On Friday, my Lithuanians and biking partner all went to
this Riink spot where you can rent those 4-wheel roller skates and do circles
to music. Some retro shit. That night it was 90s hip-hop. Pretty fun evening. We followed it up
with some street food and beer.
I’m like
halfway packed, tomorrow I’ll do
the rest. I did my last gym, last walks around Zhongshan park, last veggie
& fruits shopping, last haircut, last arcades, last peanut sauce noodles... Last night in my
apartment ahead of me... This year was dope... Lotta new people, lotta bizarre stories, lotta
love, lotta traveling, had some close people visiting... I’m still on track heading to PhD,
still on hip-hop/vegan/skating/cycling/single/autistic/definitely-not-acloholic
kinda shit... And there’s more
to come in September. Shout out to everybody reading this, shout out to all my
people... You know who you are... It’s all
love! One!
Highlights:
- Drake – Scorpion. That motherfucker delivered real strong.
- Started watching Handmaid’s Tale. I’m late on in but man... Some amazing shit right there.
- Square and Laurence anyways. Courtesy of my Lithuanians... Great movies.
