Hello world, here we go again. It’s Sunday morning, and I’m currently in an apartment in sunny Amsterdam. Through the window, I can see the beautiful Rembrandtpark with a whole lotta runners, cyclists and people walking doggies passing by. Coffee smells good, energy is correct, let’s go.
I arrived back to Brno last Sunday morning and spent couple more days there. On Sunday evening, we celebrated birthday of my dad’s partner, and Monday, me and my sis joined him for a pub trivia at his pub. I’m the worst guy for this thing, because I don’t really possess too much useful information on most topics plus I’m not really competitive so I don’t even stress about winning. My sister was a bit more involved, I was just having fun observing all these people. Dad’s team ended up winning so I guess it was a success. Tuesday, I went outside of Brno to hang out with one of my bros and Wednesday evening, I took it to Prague. One last hangout with my man over there and off to the airport on Thursday evening. I made it to my friend’s spot around midnight.
Amsterdam has a really cool vibe. First of all, it’s fucking amazing how normal bike transportation is here. It’s on a completely different level. The only place I’ve experienced that is somewhat comparable would be Shanghai. Literally every street has a bike lane here and you see bikes and cyclists everywhere. You see all different types and shapes of bicycles. You see parents carrying small kids on them, you see businessmen riding to work, it’s just beautiful.
On Friday, I had to work in the morning and my friend had some shit to do till later, so after lunch I went on and did what I hadn’t done in a while. And what I fucking love doing. You see, every time I find myself in a new place (and this is my first time over here), I love to get out and get lost in the streets. Take random turns, watch shit happening and absorb the energy. I spent the whole afternoon doing that. On top of all the cycling, there’s obviously the canals and the architecture. Amsterdam is a very picturesque place. Buildings in the center are relatively small, parks are big and green, there’s people smoking pot in coffee shops on every other corner… Shit’s just nice. In the evening, me and my friend went out for some drinks and weather was good enough for us to sit outside by the water watching time go by. We also talked briefly to an Afghani immigrant who arrived to the next table with his party. Super positive, totally gay, very talkative. That’s what I love about these bigger cities too. The variety in people, different cuisines and cultures on every step. The best prevention against homophobia.
Saturday morning, I took a walk in the area and then we spent the rest of the day roaming around and exploring. Different parts of the center, galleries, fucking epic ramen noodles, Red Light District… Now, that shit is absolutely crazy. You see, prostitution is legal over here, so you can literally go there, check out a prostitute posing in a window, go in and go at it. I’m pretty sure you can pay by credit card and shit. And I’m all for it. I believe most drugs and things like this should get legalized. Because keeping them in the dark won’t eliminate them. It will only make the situation worse and more dangerous for everyone involved. But it’s also very difficult for me to imagine the vibe of the whole thing. The idea of knocking at one of these women (majority of whom didn’t look like locals), pay some money and have sex right there doesn’t really seem too appealing to me. But hey, it’s probably one of the things you gotta try to know for sure. Anyways, we spent majority of the day out and again… You can tell Amsterdam is gentrified as fuck, the prices are a bit high and you can also assume that the center is really mostly for well-situated people, tourists and expats… But it still hasn’t lost its magic completely…
So yeah, it’s been chilled. My friend here isn’t exactly a party animal so we spend evenings talking shit or watching movies. Which is obviously enjoyable too. Got two mores days to spend over here and then it’s back to Tenerife. Hope y’all well. Sending love to everybody reading. One!
